Douglass Chalet at 1,979 m

Enjoy the surrounding mountains on the sunny lakeside terrace of the turquoise-blue ‘jewel’ of the Rätikon

The Douglass Chalet is located right next to the Lünerseebahn summit station at an elevation of 1,979 metres, by the Rätikon’s Lünersee. It is the perfect starting point for mountaineers, hikers and sport fishers.

The Douglass Chalet offers: a lakeside terrace with panoramic view, children’s playground, traditional and regional specialities, vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free dishes, a daily mountain breakfast, barrier-free restaurant, and two-, three- and four-bed rooms/storage spaces.

Mariette: involved with tourism since early childhood
“The Lünersee has always been like a magnet to me since I was small. I’d often spend my free afternoons there – lasting memories, when I think back to my childhood. By taking over the Douglass Chalet in 2009, one of my heart’s desires came true.” Talking to Mariette, it is immediately obvious that she is an innkeeper with all her heart and soul.

The restaurateur from Brand in Vorarlberg basically grew up surrounded by guests and already worked in tourism during her youth. “I love working with people and the variety that comes with my profession,” says Mariette, sizzling with enthusiasm. “So many nice and funny things happen here at the chalet. And that gives you strength for the strenuous everyday life. We have lots of regular guests who have remained faithful to us over the years. We know their personal history and they know ours. The guests really appreciate the family atmosphere,” the 40 year-old says.

She can rely on the support of her whole family – her ‘significant other’ Gernot as chef de cuisine, her son Luca during the holidays as well as her parents and her sister Manuela. “It would be almost impossible to get everything done without the help of my family,” says Mariette. “I am also very thankful for my great team, which includes many long-term employees,” she adds.

Lünersee, the natural jewel

It is very clear to Mariette what makes the Douglass Chalet so special. “There is no place more beautiful. The Lünersee with its diverse alpine flora has something to offer all nature lovers – for the sporty climbers and mountaineers in search of challenging routes to families with pushchairs. What’s more, the Lünersee – the turquoise-blue pearl of the Rätikon, as it is commonly known – is a magnet for anglers and fly fishers,” Mariette explains.

Cuisine for every taste

Particular value is placed on good, solid and down-to-earth Austrian cuisine at the Douglass Chalet. “We offer freshly prepared dishes every day, such as savoury foods like dumplings or Spätzle. But vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes are also a matter of course for us. The trout fillet from the lake is an absolute highlight,” the innkeeper proudly explains. She also pursues her vocation as a restaurateur in winter.
